You may have heard recently that Canadian coins have been discovered with tiny radio transmitters used for espionage, well now the United States has infiltrated its neighbor to the north with its own mole. Er, actually, with a skunk.

A story from Reuters says an American skunk got trapped in a truck and survived a seven-day trip to Canada. Only now the Canadians don’t know what to do with the wayward animal. Release it? No, says Nathalie Karvonen of the Toronto Wildlife Centre.

“It’s totally and utterly illegal from a provincial and federal standpoint to release a California skunk in Ontario.” As well, “skunks are very territorial animals … “They won’t just readily accept a stranger in their territory, so there will be a big skunk fight.”

Well no one wants a big skunk fight in Canada, that’s sure enough. Imagine the stink that would create. The concerned Canadians are looking for a volunteer to take the skunk back to California, but so far no one has stepped up to the plate.
