Hooters has let me down

I have felt many emotions about the Hooters restaurant chain — disinterest, loathing, condescension come to mind — but never disappointment, until today. I know, how can a chain restaurant I have no interest in disappoint me? Well, as much as I have denigrated their menu and concept, I have always admired the company’s pointed and full frontal assault on a target demographic (lowest common denominator) and their unwavering defense in its right to do so. But now it seems that the owl has blinked. From WKMG in Orlando:

A controversial sign outside a Central Florida Hooter’s restaurant reading “plagiarism saves time” located near a school has been removed.

Local 6 videotaped the plagiarism sign at the Hooter’s restaurant on Lake Underhill Road located across the street from Legacy Middle School.A teacher thought the sign sent the wrong message to students, the report said.

When Local 6 brought the controversy to the restaurant’s attention, workers removed the slogan.

So, boobies and hot pants and misogamy and really, really awful wings are OK, but as soon as a teacher complains about a sign advocating plagiarism, Hooters jumps into action, huh? What a bunch of pussies.
