Slacking off at work is about as American as apple pie, it’s practically an inalienable right in fact. Show me someone who never slacks off and I’ll show you a corporate robotron who’s headed for an early grave. But there’s slacking and then there’s Emmalee Bauer.

Bauer, a 25-year-old office worker in Des Moines, Iowa, was fired from her job recently after her manager found her personal journal on her computer, which included details about how she avoided doing any work for months. Entries from the journal came to light during Bauer’s hearing for unemployment benefits; yes, not only was she slacking at work and bragging about it in her journal (which she kept on her work computer), but then she had the balls — so to speak — to ask for unemployment!

According to the AP story, Bauer wrote, “This typing thing seems to be doing the trick. It just looks like I am hard at work on something very important.” She also noted, “I can shop online, play games and read message boards and still get paid for it.”

Unfortunately for her, the administrative judge hearing her case wasn’t very sympathetic and denied her request for compensation. Imagine that.
