How much for the baby?

According to CBS News, three people in Colorado were arrested recently for trying to swap a baby for a Dodge Intrepid.
Nicole Uribe, 23, is accused of trading the baby to Jose-Juan Lerma, 47, and his wife, Irene, 27, in exchange for $1,500, $500 which was to be the downpayment, Pueblo police Sgt. Brett Wilson said. Details of the dollar amount were first reported by The Gazette.
A down payment? Come on, this is a baby we’re talking about. Okay, it wasn’t a Chinese baby; I hear those fetch top dollar, like say a Jaguar or an Escalade. But still, for an American baby you should still be able to get a Nissan or a VW Bug straight up.
Forget about the trade deficit or the exchange rate, someone really needs to do something about the falling value of babies in this country. Pretty soon you’ll have to have a whole brood just to get a loaf of bread.
