Anipryl
Anipryl is used to control symptoms associated with canine Cognitive
Dysfunction Syndrome and canine Cushing's Disease (Pituitary Dependent
Hyperadrenocorticism). CDS is caused by physical and chemical changes
that affect brain functionality in older dogs. Dogs with CDS may show
signs of confusion as well as behavioral changes disassociated with
the
aging process. Response to Anipryl may vary from dog to dog, with the
most
common side effects including vomiting, diarrhea, and hyperactivity.
The majority of side effects are mild to moderate.
Anipryl increases the concentration of dopamine in the brain, and can
be prescribed by a veterinarian after a diagnosis of CDS has been
determined. It comes in tablet form for ease of dosing, with most dogs
given
one pill a day in the morning, and can be given with food. Once the
medication cycle has begun the pills must be given every day to prevent
a
reappearance of signs.
